Chapter Three: Mapambano ya Awali Dhidi ya Uvamizi wa Kikoloni – Historia ya Tanzania na Maadili Form Two
Tanzanian societies used various methods and means to reject and resist colonial invasion.
In this chapter, you will learn about the concept of colonial invasion and the reasons for resisting colonial invasion.
Colonial invasion is the act of one country entering another country with the aim of establishing its political, economic and social rule. Often, this invasion is carried out using military force.
The establishment of colonial rule depends on the failure of the invaded country to defend itself or prevent the invasion.
The colonial invasion in Tanzania (Tanganyika and Zanzibar) was strongly opposed because Tanzanian communities understood that allowing the colonialists to invade would lead to the loss of their independence.
For reasons of patriotism and love for their communities, many leaders of Tanzanian communities led the struggle against the invasion since the 1880s and this struggle continued even after colonialism was established in Tanganyika.
