Chapter Two: Athari za Ukoloni katika Maadili ya Kitanzania – Historia ya Tanzania na Maadili Form Two

The arrival of colonialism at the end of the 19th century led to the spread of colonial values, which undermined the indigenous value systems of Tanzanian societies.

The concept of values during colonialism encompasses the systems of governance, politics, economics, and culture that were introduced by the colonizers as well as those that existed before the arrival of the colonizers in Tanzanian societies.

To a large extent, Africans continued to live and follow their own traditions and customs, although they also adopted new values such as spiritual beliefs, systems of governance, and foreign cultures.

Colonial norms emphasized individual responsibility, private ownership of property, and respect according to one’s position in society.

However, these norms largely conflicted with Tanzanian values that existed before the arrival of the colonizers.
