It is expected that every student enrolled in school will attend until he/she completes the education level for which he/she is enrolled. Similarly, while in school, the student is expected to follow the school rules to enable him/her to follow his/her studies.
However, there are some students who are undisciplined to the extent that the teachers take disciplinary action. Such action includes corporal punishment.
Corporal punishment may be imposed for serious misconduct or for criminal offenses committed in or outside school that warrant the following punishment:
1. The punishment will take into account the severity of the offense, the age, sex and health of the child and will not exceed four strokes at a time.
2. Corporal punishment will be administered by the Headmaster or another Teacher who will be designated by the Headmaster in writing, each time an offense that warrants this punishment is committed.
3. A female student will be given corporal punishment by a female teacher only, unless the school does not have a female teacher.
4. Whenever corporal punishment is administered, the punishment should be recorded in a book set aside for this purpose, including
i. the name of the student who was given the punishment
ii. the offense committed,
iii. the number of strokes and
iv. the name of the teacher who administered the punishment.
v. The Head Teacher should sign the book each time this punishment is administered.
vi. A student or parent who refuses corporal punishment will be suspended from school.
vii. Disciplinary action will be taken against any teacher who violates the corporal punishment procedure.
It is hereby notified that it is prohibited for any teacher to be seen with a stick in his hand for the purpose of punishing a student.
