Samia Raised HESLB Fund From 464 to TZS 787 Billion For 2025/2026 Academic Year
The sixth-term government led by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has increased loans for higher education students from TZS 464 billion in the 2024/2025 budget to TZS 787 billion in the 2025/2026 budget. On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, the Minister of Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Adolf Mkenda, announced this remarkable increase during a press briefing in Dodoma. The event, held at the Information Services Department (MAELEZO), was part of the government’s four-year performance review.
Prof. Mkenda highlighted that this substantial financial commitment is a reflection of President Samia’s ongoing vision to improve access to higher education and support Tanzanian students across the country.
The Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Adolf Mkenda, made this statement in Dodoma (Tuesday, May 27, 2025) while speaking to journalists about the achievements of the government’s four years at the Information Department (MAELEZO) hall, while emphasizing that his ministry has added two more centers of excellence in medical education in East Africa that are expected to be built in the country, thus bringing the number of centers to three.
He said that one of the centers will be at Benjamin Mkapa Hospital in collaboration with the University of Dodoma (UDOM) and the other will be at Mloganzila Hospital, thus creating three centers of excellence in medical education in East Africa.
In addition, Minister Mkenda said that a center of excellence for medical education, cardiovascular science is being built, where currently 83 million US dollars have been added and construction will take place at the Jakaya Kikwete Heart Institute (JKCI), which will be an excellent center for cardiovascular diseases.
