Meaning of cybersecurity
The foundation of cybersecurity centres on the term cyber. The term “cyber” relates to computer systems, digital technology, and the Internet or online world. It is often used to describe things connected to online activities, networks, and virtual environments, such as cyberspace, cybercrime, and cybersecurity.
Cyberspace is the virtual world created by computers, the Internet, and digital networks. As discussed in the previous chapter, the world of the Internet is what makes the cyberspace of our days.
It is where online activities, such as communication, social media, online banking, and gaming, take place. In cyberspace, people can connect, share information, and do business. However, it also comes with risks like cybercrime.
Cybercrime is a crime committed using computers, the Internet, or other digital devices.
It includes hacking, stealing personal information, spreading harmful viruses, online scams, cyberbullying, and identity theft.
Criminals use technology to steal money and personal data or harm people and businesses. To stay safe, it is important to protect personal information and follow good cybersecurity practices.
