CHAPTER 1: THE INTERNET – COMPUTER SCIENCE FORM II
Chapter One: The Internet, Introduction to the Internet, Understanding the Internet, Internet Services and Applications, How the Internet Works, Internet Connectivity, Web Browsers and Search Engines, Websites and Web Pages, Internet Communication, Email and Online Communication.
MEANING OF THE INTERNET
The Internet is a worldwide system of computer networks. It is a global network of connected computer networks and devices that communicate through standard protocols.
Protocols are rules and procedures governing how devices communicate and exchange data over a network.
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF THE INTERNET
The “Internet EvolutionTimeline” shows how the Internet has grown and changed from 1969 to the 2020s. Itstarted with ARPANET in 1969, one of the first computer networks, and later in the 1970s, the basic rules for how computers talk to each other (called TCP/IP) were created.
In the 1980s, people began using email and the Domain Name System (DNS), which made it easier to find websites. The 1990s brought the World Wide Web, making the Internet useful for everyone, and many companies started building websites, leading to the dot-com boom.
In the 2000s and beyond, faster Internet (broadband), smartphones, social media, cloud storage, video streaming, 5G, and smart devices (IoT) have made the Internet a big part of everyday life.
