Topic 3: Solve Mathematics Problems in Different Situations is the third topic in the Tanzania Standard Seven Mathematics syllabus. It develops pupils’ ability to apply mathematical knowledge and skills to solve a wide range of problems encountered in school and everyday life.
Meaning of Problem Solving
Problem solving is the process of identifying a problem, choosing an appropriate mathematical method, performing the necessary calculations, and interpreting the answer correctly.
Topic 3: Solve Mathematics Problems in Different Situations equips Standard Seven pupils with the knowledge and skills to apply mathematics confidently in everyday life. By mastering this topic, pupils learn to solve problems involving numbers, measurements, percentages, ratios, money, time, and geometry, enabling them to make informed decisions and prepare for further studies.

3.1 Applying mathematical operation to solve real-life problems.
a) Diving whole numbers by fraction to their simplest form.
b) Dividing fraction by fraction and simplify to the simplest form.
c) Dividing fraction by decimal and simplify to the simplest form.
3.2 Applying number relations to solve problems in different situations.
a) Using examples to analyses sources of profit and loss in buying and selling commodities.
b) Preparing income and expenditure sheets in buying and selling commodities.
c) Conducting project based on buying and selling of commodities.
