Geography of Mpwapwa district

Mpwapwa District Council is one of the eight (8) District Councils in Dodoma Region. The headquarters is located 120 km from the Dodoma Regional Headquarters.

The Council is located between latitudes 6°00” and 7°00” South of the Equator and longitudes 35°45” and 35°00” East of the Greenwich Mean Time.

Mpwapwa District Council borders Kongwa District Council to the north, Chamwino District Council to the west. To the east it borders Kilosa District Council (Morogoro Region) and to the south it borders Iringa District Council (Iringa Region).

Area size

The district has an area of 7,479 square kilometers, equivalent to (18.35%) of the total area of Dodoma Region. This area, which is equivalent to 737,900 hectares, is used for agricultural activities, livestock farming, forest reserves and housing.

Administrative Structure of the District Council

The District Council has 2 Electoral Constituencies, 4 Divisions, 33 Wards, 113 Villages, 575 Subdistricts and 18 Localities.

Population

According to the 2012 Population and Housing Census, the District Council was estimated to have a population of 305,056, of which 147,306 (48.3%) were males, 157,750 (51.7%) were females and 66,316 households.

In addition, for the year 2016, using a growth rate of 2.1 percent, it is estimated that there will be about 331,500 residents , of whom 162,435 were males and 169,065 were females living in 72,065 households.
