This textbook, Literature in English for Secondary Schools, is written specifically for Form Three and Four students in the United Republic of Tanzania.
It is based on the 2019 Literature in English Syllabus for Secondary Schools Form III-IV, issued by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST).
The textbook is intended to enable you to develop your literary skills to appreciate and analyse as well as create literary works.
The book consists of seven chapters, namely the Introduction to literature, Oral literature, Written literature, Understanding literary analysis, Appreciating and analysing plays, Appreciating and analysing novels and short stories, and Appreciating and analysing poetry.
Chapters One to Four will be covered in Form Three, whereas chapters Five to Seven will be covered in Form Four.
Each chapter contains texts and activities.
You are encouraged to do all the activities and answer all the questions together with other assignments that your teacher will provide. Doing so will enable you to develop the intended competencies.
