THE HEADTEACHER – DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. He/she shall be the head of school.

2. He/she shall provide a linkage between the staff members and the school director as well as the school and the external community.

3. He/she shall monitor the teaching and learning process in the school.

4. He/she shall see to it that the school timetable is followed properly.

5. He/she shall supervise the repair and maintenance of the school and its properties.

6. He/she shall be the overall in charge to supervise and monitor all departments.

7. He/she shall be the chairperson of school staff members.

8. He/she shall call school meetings and lead discussions with teachers, non-teaching staff and pupils.

9. He/she shall be the secretary of the school board of which the chairperson is the chairperson of the school committee.

10. He/she shall give the final decision on all academic matters concerning the school in absence of the school director.

11. He/she can appoint any staff member to perform any task provided that the task assigned is ethical and relevant to the staff’s profession.

12. In his/her absence, he/she shall be assisted by the deputy head teacher.

13. He/she shall be responsible in advising the school director on matters pertaining to better well-being of the school.

14. He/she shall prepare terminal and annual reports which shall be handled to the school director.

15. He/she shall be responsible to motivate teachers and pupils so that teaching and learning processes can be improved.
