This book, English for Secondary Schools, Teachers Guide has been written specifically for Form One Teachers in the United Republic of Tanzania.

The book has’been prepared in accordance with the 2023 English Language Syllabus for Ordinary Secondary Education, Form I-IV, issued by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.

Some of the contents in this book have been adapted from English for Secondary Schools for Form One that was published in 2018 in accordance with the 2005 Ordinary Level Syllabus issued by the then Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MoEVT).

The book consists of ten chapters, namely:-

1. Using ICT tools to search for information

2. Listening to various types of information

3. Producing short and coherent oral messages

4. Developing vocabulary from conversation and written texts

5. Using appropriate grammar and vocabulary in oral and written contexts

6. Reading texts for comprehension

7. Comprehending oral messages

8. Responding through oral and written communication

9. Using appropriate grammar and vocabulary for oral communication and

10. Creating a variety of texts using appropriate tone and register

It includes engaging exercises, real-life examples, and interactive activities that will help you to enable students develop the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

In addition, the guide will help you with methodology for expanding students’ vocabulary through reading various types of texts and practising using words and phrases in natural settings.
