DUTIES&RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE HEAD OF DEPARTMENT
1. He/she shall be the head of meetings of academic department.
2. He/she shall make sure that the school library has all the required teaching materials and report to the Head teacher in case there is any need.
3. He/she shall link the school with other schools or learning institutions in academic matters. This will include preparing and requesting for joint examinations with other schools surrounding ASEC.
4. He/she shall lead the teams of external and internal examiners during examinations periods.
5. He/she shall ensure that every teaching member of the staff fulfills his/her academic objectives in time. These include preparation of lesson plans, lesson notes, schemes of work and suggestions on better ways to improve performance in case of poor performance.
6. He/she shall plan and produce the best teaching techniques.

7. He/she shall maintain the academic discipline within the school community aiming at making ASEC the best place for academic development.
8. He/she shall be responsible for overall school activities if the head teacher and the deputy head teacher are absent.
9. He/she shall make sure that all the exams; being monthly, terminal, mock or national exams are done in time and according to the rules and regulations of examinations. He/she shall make sure that the examinations timetable is displayed on time to allow proper preparation for the exams.
10. He/she shall approve marking schemes of all school exams, allocate supervisors, markers and produce results as well as assessment reports soon after marking.
11. He/she shall prepare terminal and annual academic reports which shall clearly analyze the academic situation of the school in general, the strengths and weaknesses, as well as suggestions on how to improve academic performance of the learners.
12. He/she shall be accountable to the Head teacher.

2. Assistant academic teacher-Secretary.
3. Head teacher-Member.
4. Heads of subjects-Members.
Note: The board shall sit every month.
