Number of periods refers to the total count of teaching sessions (lessons) allocated to a particular subject or topic within a specified time frame, usually a week, term, or academic year.

Duration and Number of Periods: The academic year will consist of 194 days equivalent to 39 weeks which are divided into two equal terms. In each term two weeks will be used for internal assessment.
The duration of a period will be 40 minutes and the daily study time is 6 hours. The division of periods and duration for each subject at each level of Secondary Education is explained in Table Below

The time allocated for the vocational education stream is 1500 hours per year. The time breakdown is shown in Table below.
The allocation of hours for vocational education subjects will be based on the relevant subject curriculum approved by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET).
In addition, extracurricular activities will be implemented in accordance with the guidelines issued by the relevant authorities.
