MUHAS Postgraduate Programmes and Entry Qualifications

The Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) started as the Dar es salaam medical school in 1963. The school then transformed into the faculty of medicine of the university of Dar es salaam that in 1991 was upgraded and became a college–the Muhimbili University College of Health Sciences (MUCHS).

In 1996, the Faculty of Medicine that was upgraded to a constituent College of the University of Dar es Salaam, with the aim of nurturing it to a full-fledged university later on was merged with the Muhimbili hospital to create the Muhimbili Medical Centre (MMC).

MSc Anatomy

Doctor of Medicine, Dental Surgery, Human Anatomy, Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 2.7. OR Postgraduate Diploma in any relevant field with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0.

MSc Biochemistry

Doctor of Medicine, Dental Surgery, Pharmacy, Radiotherapy Technology Veterinary Medicine, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Biochemistry, Molecular biology, Chemistry, Biology or Zoology, Biotechnology GPA of 2.7. OR Postgraduate Diploma in any relevant field with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0.

MSc Clinical Pharmacology

Doctor of Medicine, Dental Surgery, Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Veterinary Medicine, Nursing or related field with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 2.7. OR Postgraduate Diploma in any relevant field with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0.

MSc Clinical Psychology

Bachelor degree in Counselling Psychology or equivalent PLUS a minimum of B grade in Psychology at undergraduate level or a minimum GPA of 2.7. OR Postgraduate Diploma in any relevant field with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0. PLUS 2 years working experience.

MSc Microbiology and Immunology

Doctor of Medicine, Dental Surgery, Nursing, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Environmental Health Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, Microbiology, Applied Microbiology, Food Science and Technology or related field with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 2.7. OR Postgraduate Diploma in any relevant field with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0.

MSc Physiology

Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Dental Surgery, Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences, Pharmacy, Radiation Therapy Technology, Nursing, Physiology and Veterinary Medicine with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 2.7. OR Postgraduate Diploma in any relevant field with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0.

MSc Histotechnology

Bachelor degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences (General) or Medical Laboratory Sciences (Histotechnology) PLUS a minimum of “B” grade in Histotechnology at undergraduate level or aminimum GPA of 2.7. OR Postgraduate Diploma in any relevant field with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0.

MSc. Cardiovascular Perfusion

Doctor of Medicine, Nursing, Nursing Anaesthesia or related field with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 2.7. OR Postgraduate Diploma in any relevant field with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0. PLUS 2-years of post-intern working experience.

MMed Anatomical Pathology

Doctor of Medicine or equivalent with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 2.7. OR Postgraduate Diploma in any relevant field with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0.

MMed Clinical Oncology

Doctor of Medicine or equivalent PLUS a minimum of “B” grade in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics or Obstetrics and Gynaecology at undergraduate level or a minimum GPA of 2.7. OR Postgraduate Diploma in any relevant field with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0. PLUS 2- years of postinternship working experience

MMed Emergency Medicine

MMed Hematology and Blood Transfusion

Doctor of Medicine or equivalent with a minimum of “B” grade in Pathology, Internal Medicine or Paediatrics and Child Health at undergraduate level or a minimum GPA of 2.7. OR Postgraduate Diploma in any relevant field with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0. PLUS 2-years of postinternship working experience.

MMed Internal Medicine

Doctor of Medicine or equivalent PLUS a minimum of “B” grade in Internal Medicine at undergraduate level or a minimum GPA of 2.7. OR Postgraduate Diploma in any relevant field with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0. PLUS 2-years of postinternship working experience

MMed Microbiology and Immunology

Doctor of Medicine or equivalent with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 2.7. OR Postgraduate Diploma in any relevant field with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0.

MMed Obstetrics and Gynecology

Doctor of Medicine or equivalent with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 2.7. OR Postgraduate Diploma in any relevant 64 field with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0. PLUS 2-years of postinternship working experience.

MMed Ophthalmology

Doctor of Medicine or equivalent with an average of “B” grade in surgery or specialties or a minimum GPA of 2.7. OR Postgraduate Diploma in any relevant field with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0. PLUS 2-years of post internship working experience.
