Swahili Literature is a compulsory subject at the Secondary Education level in Form V–VI for a student who will join the specific course of which Swahili Literature is one of the learning subjects.
The aim of studying Swahili Literature is to develop knowledge, skills and orientation that will enable the student to master the foundations and theories of literature as well as to build logical and persuasive arguments in various contexts.
Thus, the student will be able to develop self-awareness, self-confidence, evaluate and reflect deeply on literary and social issues.
Similarly, the student will be able to review, sing/sing, act out and compose various literary works in order to cope with the environment around him in daily life by self-employment or employment.
In addition, the student will be able to appreciate his culture and understand the cultures of other communities, thus being able to collaborate with national and international people.
This outline has been prepared to guide the teaching and learning of Swahili Literature in Secondary Education Forms V-VI in the United Republic of Tanzania. This outline has translated the competencies specified in the Secondary Education Curriculum Forms V-VI 2023.
The outline provides instructions that will enable the teacher to organize the teaching process effectively. Similarly, the outline enables the teacher to use various teaching and learning methods that will promote understanding of Swahili Literature and 21st century skills including creativity, communication, collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving.
