GE 141 – Module 6 Current Climate Change

Global Warming is the increase of Earth’s average surface temperature due to effect of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels or from deforestation, which trap heat that would otherwise escape from Earth.

The current climate change and global warming has been used interchangeably by many authors to mean the same thing.

What is the greenhouse effect?

The greenhouse effect is when the temperature rises because the sun’s heat and light is trapped in the earth’s atmosphere.

What are greenhouse gasses?

Greenhouse gasses are gasses are in the earth’s atmosphere that collects (trap) heat and light from the sun.

Impacts of climate change

1. Massive crop failures and food security

2. Climate change will stress water resources

3. Rise in sea levels worldwide

4. More hazards and disasters

5. Widespread extinction of species

6. Disappearance of coral reefs

7. Threats to human health will increase
