Curriculum: Is all experiences children have under the guidance of teachers. (Caswell and Campbell: 1935)

Curriculum Theory: Is a set of related statements that gives meaning to the curriculum by pointing out the relationships among its elements, and by directing its planning, its use (i.e implementation) and its evaluation.

Significance of Curriculum

i) It guides the teaching and learning process in the sense that it indicates the content to be learnt by different segments of population

ii) It suggests where and how the content should be taught and learnt

iii) It determines the teaching and learning for different learners

iv) It prepares students to succeed in society; so it enables human being skills needed for tradition from childhood into adult life

(v) It acts as a catalyst for society development

(vi) It helps to determine types of education to be provided

(vii) It instructs modes of assessment

(viii) It unveils standards of education provided

(ix)It expresses types of certificates provided to different groups of learners
