The Concept of Profession
The term profession has been described in different ways with reference to:
i. Any activity with payment
– Any task or job that provides payment to a worker is referred to as a profession
– For example: A football player who is paid for playing football is regarded as a professional as opposed to an amateur footballer.
– Note: a person serving a given profession is called a professional.
ii. Any job well done
– The standards of excellence of a particular activity/ enterprise.
– Thus, the plumber or electrician can be called a professional if he/she efficiently executes and finishes the job successfully
iii. a particular class or category of occupation
With the standard requirement under the ethical dimensions
– There are stipulated standards that the members need to observe.
