Topic 7: Sayansi na Teknolojia Kabla ya Ukoloni – Historia ya Tanzania na Maadili Form One

Science and technology were important in the lives of Tanzanian societies before colonialism. These societies had their own knowledge and innovations to adapt to their environment.

In this chapter, you will learn the concept of science and technology and the state of science and technology before colonialism. You will also learn the drivers of change in science and technology before colonialism.

The skills you will develop will enable you to appreciate natural science and technology and design various products that can be used in the present day.

The concept of science and technology

Science is knowledge obtained by thinking, doing actions, or trying to implement theories that have been determined or perhaps not proven.

Science involves conducting investigative actions to bring understanding and make a person find recognition and solutions to things. Scientific knowledge is obtained
through methods or procedures used and accepted by the scientific community.

Science is divided into two parts, which are natural sciences and social sciences. Natural sciences are divided into the fields of biology, physics and chemistry;
and social sciences are divided into fields such as history, language and art.

These scientific disciplines have enabled us to study and understand the history of human life in different periods.

Technology is the result of the use of science in designing various tools or devices to simplify operations. Advances in science have contributed to the growth of technology that simplifies human operations.

Science and technology are derived from the changes that humans have undergone in the manufacture and use of tools for producing goods. This period lasted for three million years, which constitutes the history of humanity on earth.
