What are business licenses?

It is a permit or permission given to a person to allow them to do business.

License Types

1. This category “A” business license is issued to businesses with a national or international dimension or that are policy-driven.

2. This category “B” business license is issued to businesses that do not have a national or international profile or are not guided by policy. They are issued by Local Government Authorities (Councils/Municipalities).

Criteria for applying for a license

(a) Individual

National identification number of the license applicant
Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN)
Proof of business premises, such as a lease agreement, residential license or document.
Tax Clearance Certificate
Approval from regulatory authorities (Depending on the type of business)

(b) Business/company name

Company registration certificate or Business name
Information from the registrar (extract from Register) for business names only
Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) of the company or business name holder.
Tax Clearance Certificate for the license renewal applicant.
Proof of business premises such as a lease agreement, residential license or land title deed.
Proof of citizenship and residency for the company’s Directors and Shareholders.

Select “License services”
Click the first step “register”
Go back and click on the section labeled “services”
Select “License services”
Step two: fill out the license application information
Upload attachments to the system
Click submit request
Confirm payment.

NOTE: After submitting the application, BRELA will review the information submitted for accuracy and then a payment invoice will be sent for payment and confirmation of payment.
