Safety signs are signs or drawings that provide signals or warnings.

- provide instructions that lead to protecting the safety of objects and living organisms in the environment.
- some safety signs are added with words so that they can be easily interpreted.
Places or Areas Where Safety Signs Are Placed
- on equipment such as medicine or chemical bottles.
- on transport vehicles such as buses, planes, ships, boats or oil tankers.
- are placed in buildings to direct emergency exits such as slippery floors.
- are placed on equipment containing chemicals or that can cause harm.
- are placed on transformers and on high voltage electrical poles.
Types of Safety Signs
There are four main types of safety signs, which are:-
- Prohibition or prohibition signs.
- Warning or caution signs.
- Mandatory or command signs.
- Emergency signs.
Prohibition Signs
These are safety signs shown in red. Prohibition signs may indicate the following instructions or instructions:-
(i) Danger
(ii) Stop
(iii) Stop
(iv) Shutdown
(v) Leave/Move
(vi) No entry by unauthorized person.
Characteristics of Prohibition Signs
- Red circle or square.
- Black image on a white background with red edges.
