DMI Bachelor Degree Entry Qualification and Requirements:- Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute (DMI) was established by Act of Parliament No. 22 of 1991 to cater for greater needs of Shipping Industry in the region. The Institute (DMI) originated from what was known as Dar es Salaam Maritime Training Unit (DMTU) which was established on the 3rd July 1978 as a training wing of Tanzania Coastal Shipping Line (TACOSHILI) to fulfil the need of well-trained seafarers.

DMI is the Centre of Excellence in Maritime Education and Training in the East African region. The centre has qualified Personnel and provides quality education, which suits market needs in the aspect of being employed and self-employment in maritime industry. DMI offers programmes accredited by NACTVET (NTA Level 4-9) and TASAC (Certificate of Competency – CoC and Short courses).

Bachelor Degree in Marine Engineering Technology(BMET)

  1. Ordinary Diploma in Marine Engineering. with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  2. Two principal passes at a minimum of ‘D’ grade in the following subjects: Advanced Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry, or Foundation Programme of the OUT with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  3. Full Technician Certificate (FTC) or Ordinary Diploma in: Mechanical, Automobile Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with at least a GPA of 3.0 with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Bachelor Degree in Mechanical and Marine Engineering(BMME)

  1. Ordinary Diploma in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering with an Average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  2. Two principal passes at a minimum of ‘D’ grade in the following subjects: Advanced, Mathematics, Physics, or Chemistry, or Foundation Programme of the OUT with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  3. Ordinary Diploma in Marine and Mechanical Engineering with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Bachelor Degree in Mechatronics Engineering(BMTE)

  1. Two principal passes at a minimum of ‘D’ grade in the following subjects: Advanced Mathematics, Physics, or Chemistry, or Foundation Programme of the OUT with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  2. A Holder of an Ordinary Diploma in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering with an average of “B’’ or a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  3. Diploma in Mechatronics Engineering with an average of “B’’ or a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Bachelor Degree in MaritimeTransport and Nautical Science(BMTNS)

  1. Two principal passes at a minimum of ‘D’ grade in following subjects; Advanced Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Geography or Chemistry; or Foundation Programme of the OUT with minimum GPA of 3.0.
  2. Full Technician Certificate (FTC) or Diploma in Master Fisherman, Fisheries and Technology with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0 from a recognized Institution.
  3. Ordinary Diploma in Maritime Transportation or Maritime Transport and Nautical Science minimum with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Bachelor Degree in Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering(BNAOE)

  1. Two principal passes at a minimum of ‘D’ grade in the following subjects: Advanced Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry Geography or Foundation Programme of the OUT with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  2. Ordinary Diploma in either Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Civil engineering, Shipbuilding, Oil and Gas (Petroleum) Engineering, Mechanical and Marine Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering from a recognized institution with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  3. Diploma in Naval Architecture and offshore Engineering with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Bachelor Degree in Oil and Gas Engineering(BOGE)

  1. Two principal passes at a minimum of ‘D’ grade in the following subjects: Advanced Mathematics, Physics, Geography and Chemistry, or Foundation Programme of the OUT with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  2. Ordinary Diploma in either Oil and Gas Engineering Technology, Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering, Mechanical and Marine Engineering, Mining Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Civil Engineering with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  3. Ordinary Diploma in Oil and Gas Engineering with an average of “B’’ or a minimum GPA of 3.0.

  1. Two principal passes at a minimum of ‘D’ grade in the following subjects: Advanced Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Accountancy, Geography, History, English/Literature, Economics or Commerce or Foundation Programme of the OUT with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  2. Diploma or Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain Management or Shipping and Logistics Management or Logistics and Transport Management or Maritime Transport and Nautical Science or Marine Engineering or Master Fisherman or Freight Clearing and Forwarding or port management and shipping or information technology/computer science or project planning and management or Customs and Tax Management with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0.
