CT 201 Visual Media Projected and Non Projected

Visual media are of two types:

→Projected visual media

→Non-projected visual media.

We will mainly focus on projected media but you are supposed to read about non-projected visual media. We have covered some of the non- projected media when we were discussing traditional media.

Non-projected visual media

  • These are media which do not require an electrical outlet when displayed.
  • They include pictures, charts, graphs, posters, and cartoons which provide powerful visual support to abstract concepts.
  • They can translate abstract ideas into more realistic formats.
  • They allow instructions to move from verbal level to more concrete level.

Projected visual media

These are media formats in which still images are enlarged and displayed on a screen.

The projection of image is achieved in various ways:

  • →Passing strong light through a transparent film as in overhead projectors.
  • →Magnifying image through a series of lenses.

The image can then be cast onto a reflective surface.

New projection techniques include storing images electronically and projecting them in a PowerPoint. Digital storage mechanisms include CR-Room, DVDs, Scanner, Memory stick etc.
