Communication
The act of conveying meanings/info from one entity/person or group to another through the use of mutually understood language, signs, symbols, and semiotic rules.
Communication is giving, receiving or exchanging ideas, information, signals or messages through appropriate media, enabling individuals or groups to persuade, to seek information, to give information or to express emotions.
Importance/purpose of communication
1. Helps to transfer information, knowledge and skills, hence learn/teach.
2. It helps in meeting our basic needs (physiological, social, psychological) through interaction with others as individuals.
3. We use it to influence, change attitudes, behaviours of others
4. It is the means of sharing ideas as social beings for entertainment etc.
Significance of comm. Basis of coordination
Helps in smooth working of the enterprise
Acts as basis of decision making
Increase managerial efficiency
Promotes cooperation and industrial peace
Establishes effective leadership
Boosts morale and provides motivation
Key Elements of Comm
Communication is transactional. Communication happens in a certain context if the following key elements are involved:
1. Sender/encoder/source
2. Message/information
3. Channel/medium
4. Receiver/decoder/destination
5. Feedback
