Zanzibar Upper Primary Syllabus STD IV – VII
After the Glorious Revolution, the Government inherited the colonial education system of 8 – 4 – 2, that is, eight years of primary education, four years of ordinary secondary education and two years of upper secondary education.
After a period of 40 years of the Glorious Revolution, the education system changed to a structure of 3 – 7 – 3 – 2 – 2, that is, three years of preparatory education, seven years of primary education, three years of lower secondary education, two years of ordinary secondary education and two years of upper secondary education.
Seven years of primary education and three years of lower secondary education constitute compulsory education, which is the right of every child in this country.
The Syllabus for Standard IV-VII of 2022 is derived from the great changes in education that were conducted by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MoEVT), that has included the curriculum review of Pre- primary and Primary Education in 2019.
The aim of reviewing this syllabus is to make it go along with the development of science and technology, competitive in labor market with global economic changes as it has been explained in several governmental documents including the Zanzibar Education Policy.
