The National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) was established under the Parliamentary Act No. 21 of 1973 with the responsibility of administering all National Examinations and Assessments in Tanzania.
The decision to establish NECTA was a follow-up of an earlier move in which Mainland Tanzania pulled out of the East African Examinations Council (EAEC) in 1971 in order to conduct her own examinations.
The Tanzania Examinations Council would like to remind that the enrollment period for Pre-Primary and Standard One Pupils in 2025 as well as editing(proofing) the registration information for candidates 2025 has started for:
- Standard Two National Assessment (STNA),
- Standard Four National Assessment (SFNA)
- Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE)
The exercise of enrolling students as well as editing the information of candidates for the Examination classes (STNA, SFNA & PSLE) 2025 will be done by the Head of School.
REGISTRATION PROCEDURE FOR THOSE WHO FAILED OR REPEATED THE FOURTH OR SEVENTH CLASS 2025
Based on Education Circular No. 3 of the Year 2021 (Ref.No: ED/OKE/NE/W/VOL.II/41 of 25/11/2021) regarding the reinstatement of students who interrupted studies in Primary and Secondary Education for basic reasons, the Examination Council of Tanzania has set the following procedure to be considered in registering SFNA or PSLE candidates.
1. A student who was not registered (was not determined to be a candidate for PSLE 2024) or was registered for PSLE 2024 and did not take the relevant exam, the Principal will systematically submit to the DEO a request for permission to register for PSLE 2025.
2. Students registered for SFNA 2024 and did not take the relevant exam, the Examination Council will return them in a lump sum from Class 5 to Class Four 2025 students. In addition, the DEO will use the STUDENT STATUS button in PReM to identify those who are not eligible to be candidates.
3. Students who were not registered (not identified as candidates for SFNA 2024), the REO will return them to the relevant Class using the reset button on the PReM system.
4. WEOs and DEOs will satisfy themselves to the Head of School about the legitimacy of the students who are requested to return to the respective school in accordance with the above-mentioned Circular.
5. The candidate who reseat should be registered in the Primary school he attended. If the parent wants to transfer him to another school, he should do the transfer process within the registration period (13/01/2025 - 21/02/2025).
6. All registration procedures should be completed in accordance with the candidate registration calendar for the relevant year of the exam.
