NECTA New Grading System - Mfumo Mpya wa Kutunuku Matokeo By NECTA

The Board of Examinations has conducted a Review of Grades, Scores, Proficiency Levels and the use of Continuous Marks (CA) in the assessment and examination of Primary, Secondary and Teacher education and made improvements based on the improvements made in the Education and Training Policy of the year 2014 edition for 2023 and updated Curriculum for 2023. Utaratibu wa kutunuku matokeo ya mitihani ya taifa, Alama Za Ufaulu Shule Za Msingi

1. Standard Two National Assessment (STNA)

Score Reach and Proficiency Levels in the Standard Two National Assessment (STNA) will be used to measure three (03) skills which are 

  • Reading
  • Writing and 
  • Numeracy

2. Standard Four National Assessment (SFNA) and Standard Six National Assessment (SSNA) 

The grade of success and the achievement of marks will be used to process the student's results based on six (06) subjects out of seven (07) subjects he/she passed well. Thus, grading and scoring will be considered a total of 300 marks. (Upimaji wa Kitaifa wa Darasa la Nne (SFNA) na Darasa la Sita (SSNA)

3. Form Two National Assessment (FTNA) and Form Four Examination (CSEE)

The Form Two National Test (FTNA) and Form Four Examination (CSEE) are in two main groups (02) which are the General Stream and the Practical Stream. Thus, the processing and delivery of results will be based on the relevant Education stream.

A: The Form Two National Test (FTNA)  Mkondo wa Jumla na Mkondo wa Amali

Grades of success and achievement of marks will be used to process the results of the student who took the National Examination of Form Two based on seven (07) subjects out of eight (08) to ten (10) for the General stream and between eight subjects ( 08) or nine (09) for the course of action that he has successfully completed. The grade of success, the achievement of marks, grades of success and levels of competence.

i. Pass Grade, Achieved Marks and Proficiency Levels for General and Mkondo wa Amali

ii. Grades of Achievement, Points Achieved and Proficiency Levels for General and Mkondo wa Amali

B: Final Form IV Examination for General Stream and Mkondo wa Amali

Grades of success and achievement of marks will be used to process the results of the candidate of the Form Four considering the seven (07) out of eight (08) or ten (10) for the General Course and seven (07) subjects out of eight (08) to nine (09) for the Mkondo wa Amali that he has achieved better. The analysis of grades and achievement of marks is shown below.

i. Pass Grade, Achieved Marks and Proficiency Levels for General Stream and Applied Stream (For Non-Professional Subjects including Computer Applications Subject)

ii. Passing Grade, Achieved Marks and Proficiency Levels for Field Studies and Computer Applications Subject.

iii. Grades of Achievement, Points Achieved and Proficiency Levels for General and Mkondo wa Amali

4. Form Six National Examination (ACSEE)

The grade of success and the achievement of marks will be used to process the candidate's results in the Sixth Form Examination (ACSEE) based on three (03) special subjects and the calculation of the Final Mark will consider the Continuous Mark (CA) and the mark obtained by the candidate in the examination National with a ratio of 30:70; where 30 percent are Continuous Marks (CA) from school and 70 percent are National Examination Marks (FE)

The analysis of grades of success, achievement of marks and proficiency levels and CA marks are as shown in Table No. 14 to 16.

5. Teaching Diploma Examinations

Types of Diplomas that will be examined for Teaching 

Exams will have four (4) Diplomas which are Basic Education, Special Education, Early Education and Special Teaching Diploma Basic Education for Science and Mathematics subjects.  Candidates in each Diploma will be examined in four (4) basic subjects which are; Teaching (Assessment and Evaluation, Psychology and Sociology of Education, Curriculum and Teaching and Teaching Philosophy and Ethics), Inclusive Education, Professional Communication for Teachers, and Practical Teaching. The examination for the Teacher Examination will be held as follows.

i. Basic Education Teaching Diploma (Stashahada ya Ualimu Elimu ya Msingi)

ii. Special Education Teaching Diploma (Stashahada ya Ualimu Elimu Maalumu)

iii. Diploma in Early Education Teaching (Stashahada ya Ualimu Elimu ya Awali)

iv. Special Teaching Diploma in Primary Education for Science and Mathematics subjects (Stashahada Maalum ya Ualimu Elimu ya Msingi kwa masomo ya Sayansi na Hisabati)

i. Passing Grades Teacher Exam

Grades of Success and Scores in the Diploma in Primary Education Examination (DPEE); Diploma in Special Education Examination (DSPEE) and Diploma in Pre-Primary Education Examination (DPPEE) and Special Diploma in Primary Education for Science and Mathematics/Special Diploma in Primary Education in Science and Mathematics (SDPEESM) will consider the number of compulsory subjects for each exam.

NB:

Grades of achievement The Teaching Diploma level is in the form of Grade Point Average (GPA) which is Distinction, Credit and Pass. Distinction Grade is the highest achievement and Pass Grade is the lowest achievement. 

Analysis of Grades using Grade Point Average (GPA) is as specified in Table below 

In addition, the weight of points in the grade is; A = 5, B = 4, C = 3, D=2, F = 1.
